SAINT JOHN – In an exciting partnership aimed at creating change that matters, Mariner is thrilled to announce the launch of the ‘Food-Tech’ Fusion Fundraiser in celebration of their 20th Anniversary. This unique initiative, in collaboration with Thandi Restaurant, aims to raise $10,000 for the United Way serving Saint John, Kings & Charlotte through the sale of Gerry’s Salad. The funds raised will directly support the United Way’s impactful programs and initiatives, making a tangible difference in our community.
The ‘Food-Tech’ Fusion Fundraiser offers a mouth-watering twist on community impact, allowing restaurantgoers to support a worthy cause while indulging in a delightful taste sensation. Crafted with innovation and care, ‘Gerry’s Salad’ promises an unparalleled sensory experience that will satisfy stomachs and hearts alike.
“When Gerry approached us to partner on this opportunity we were inspired”, said Ken & Holly Singh co- owners of Thandi. “Gerry’s Salad is elevated with a tantalizing addition of crispy tempura calamari, offering a balanced fusion of flavors and textures. Crisp romaine lettuce leaves are generously coated with our creamy Caesar dressing, complemented by shaved Parmesan cheese, garden fresh tomatoes, and house-made croutons for that perfect crunch. Innovator Ken’s crowning glory is the tender tempura calamari, delicately tempering the dish with its light, golden-brown crispiness. This innovative take on the classic Caesar salad is sure to captivate your taste buds and leave you craving more.”
Gerry’s Salad is distinctive, much like its namesake – Gerry Pond. As co-founder of Mariner and well-known advocate of the Atlantic startup ecosystem, Gerry exemplifies an unwavering commitment to technology and social entrepreneurship, innovation, and community support. With a relentless passion for pushing boundaries, he has embraced innovation wholeheartedly, constantly bringing people together to partner in moving their ideas forward. And Gerry’s deep-rooted dedication to initiatives that uplift and empower Atlantic Canadian communities for collective progress remains a cornerstone of his endeavors.
“20 years ago, Gerry, Bob Justason and Curtis Howe set about a mission to impact the prosperity of Atlantic Canada through technology innovation,” says David Baxter, Mariner’s Vice President, Marketing. “From the beginning, they were inspired to develop a high-performance, ever-lasting company and a great place to work where people could imagine a difference and enable change that matters for their customers, and community. Although this fundraiser probably wasn’t something they envisioned when founding Mariner, it reflects what they’re about – enabling impactful change through talented people and community partners. We are delighted to team up with the like-minded folks at Thandi to give back in this way, showcasing a fun take on Mariner’s purpose to innovate always and everywhere.”
During the campaign, Thandi Restaurant will contribute a portion of the proceeds from each sale of Gerry’s Salad directly to United Way, serving Saint John, Kings, & Charlotte. Mariner has pledged to match this for a total donation of $10,000. This means that every bite of this delicious salad will contribute to vital programs supporting poverty reduction and creating strong local communities for the region. With each purchase, patrons can be confident they are directly impacting individuals on the path to self-reliance.
“We are incredibly excited about the ‘Food-Tech’ Fusion Fundraiser and its positive impact on our local community,” says Alexya Heelis, Executive Director of United Way Saint John, Kings & Charlotte. Together with Mariner and Thandi Restaurant, we can create a powerful wave of change through this innovative fundraiser. By enjoying Gerry’s Salad, supporters can make a meaningful contribution to our local United Way, helping thousands of people reach their full potential through our programs and initiatives.”
