CYBERSECURITY BULLETIN – January 28 is Data Privacy Day – yes, almost as fascinating to some as International Watching Paint Dry Day but, with data and identity theft or loss being a high risk for all organizations and all people, it pays to be mindful about how you handle and manage information.
Have you ever Google’d yourself? If you haven’t, you may want to and not just out of vanity but also to see what is on the Internet about you. You can also use the Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Framework to do a thorough online investigation of yourself (or someone else if you like!): https://osintframework.com
This is an interactive website where you click on various topic areas in the tree structure on the website and as you click, the tree expands to more detailed areas you can investigate until you finally reach the end of the branch and you can click on the leaf that interests you and it will take you to a web site related to content of that type. It is like being a detective!
You can also look on a few different websites to see if your email address has been compromised in any hacks. A commonly used site for this is “Have I been Pwned?”: https://haveibeenpwned.com
If your email has been part of a data breach at some point, be sure to take the time to change all of your online passwords and do not use the same password for all of your online accounts. If you have trouble remembering all those passwords, try a product like OneSafe – you can securely store your passwords with just one password to encrypt them.
